The new version of MAC OS X, 10.10 (Yosemite) is expected to be released today, Thursday October 16th, and is currently incompatible with the ClearPass registration system and potentially other services at Rowan.

I.     PURPOSE

To establish Principal Investigator (PI) eligibility for submission of externally funded grants.

II.    ACCOUNTABILITY

The Vice Chancellor for Research shall implement this policy, and the Assistant Vice President for Sponsored Research and Administration shall ensure compliance with this policy.

III.   APPLICABILITY

This policy applies to all faculty, employees and students of the University.

IV.   POLICY 

  1. Eligibility for Principal Investigator (PI) Status
    1. PI status is granted to all tenured and tenure-track faculty (all ranks) tenured and tenure-track librarians (all ranks); research faculty; incoming tenure-track faculty or research faculty whose start date begins in the following term; deans, associate/assistant deans; chairs and heads; clinicians with faculty appointments; and full-time administrators, full-time managerial staff, and full-time professional/technical staff who have permanent position appointments. Any time spent engaging in work on grant activities by professional, support, or administrative staff must be performed as overload and not within the confines of regular assigned activities, unless there is prior approval of the cognizant Vice President and ensuring there is no additional compensation provided for such activities.
    2. Post-doctoral associates are only eligible for PI status if their supervisor serves a major role (such as co-PI or senior personnel) on the grant.
    3. Lecturers, instructors, visiting scholars, teaching faculty, adjuncts, emeriti faculty, and instructors are not eligible for PI status. Undergraduate and graduate students are not eligible for PI status but may be permitted to conduct sponsored projects under the direction of a faculty advisor.
  2. Eligibility for Co-PI Status
    1. A Co-PI is an individual involved with the PI in the scientific development or execution of a project. A Co-PI typically devotes a specified percentage of time to the project and is considered "key/senior personnel." The designation of a Co-PI, if applicable, does not affect the PI’s roles and responsibilities as specified in this policy statement. Academic tenure-track, adjunct, emeriti faculty, employees with term appointments (e.g., instructors, post-doctoral associates, visiting scholars, etc.), and other regular employees can serve as Co-PIs on sponsored projects.
  3. Eligibility for Key Personnel on Federal Awards
    1. Key Personnel must report any foreign financial support and may not be party to a malign foreign talent recruitment program.
