I. PURPOSE

This policy establishes institutional requirements for training Senior/Key Personnel on Other Support disclosure obligations, in accordance with National Institutes of Health (NIH) Notice NOT-OD-25-133. The goal is to ensure full transparency and compliance with NIH’s disclosure standards to uphold research integrity and security.

II. ACCOUNTABILITY

Under the direction of the Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Vice Chancellor for Research shall implement this policy, and the Pre-Award, Post-Award, and Research Compliance team shall ensure compliance with this policy.

III. APPLICABILITY

This policy applies to all individuals identified as Senior/Key Personnel on NIH proposals, awards, and Just-in-Time submissions. This includes faculty, researchers, and any personnel whose contributions are deemed significant to NIH-funded research.

IV. DEFINITIONS

  1. Principal Investigator (PI) or Program Director (PD): The individual responsible for the overall conduct of the research project. A project may include Multiple PIs or Multiple PDs.
  2. Senior/Key Personnel: Individuals, including but not limited to the PI/PD, co-PIs and co-Investigators, who contribute to the scientific development or execution of a project in a substantive, measurable way.
  3. Other Support: Includes all resources made available to a researcher in support of and/or related to their research endeavors, regardless of monetary value or where that support originates.

VI. POLICY

Effective October 1, 2025, NIH requires mandatory training for PIs and Senior/Key Personnel to ensure Senior/Key Personnel fully understand their responsibility to disclose all resources made available to the researcher in support of an/or related to all of their research endeavors. Starting on that date, Senior/Key Personnel on NIH grants must complete required training for properly disclosing all “Other Support” accurately. Training may be offered via a variety of mediums including, but not limited to, NIH-endorsed online modules, institution-specific modules, CITI Program modules, or in-person training and training completion will be required prior to award issuance.
