I.  PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to set forth the requirements for graduation from Rowan University.

II. ACCOUNTABILITY

Under direction of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, all Deans, Department Chairs and Heads shall implement this policy and all faculty shall ensure compliance with the policy.

III. APPLICABILITY

This policy is applicable to all faculty and students of Rowan University.

IV.  POLICY

  1. Students must complete an academic major program to the satisfaction of the department administering the major or degree program of study.
    1. Undergraduate Students must successfully complete a minimum of 120 semester hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 (Some programs require more than 120 semester hours or a higher G.P.A. See program advisors for specific requirements). 
    2. To be awarded a Rowan Graduate degree or Certificate of Graduate Study, students must be fully admitted, in good standing and meet all academic and GPA requirements of their degree program of study.  Degrees are recorded on the official transcript and diplomas are issued only after all approvals and final grades are posted.
  2. To be eligible for graduation, transfer and native first-year Undergraduate Students will be permitted to take up to 10% of the credits earned at Rowan Pass/No Credit. Any exception to this regulation requires the prior written consent of the academic major program advisor and the respective academic dean. 
    1. For Undergraduate Students, a minimum of 30 credits of student's total degree program requirements must be taken in courses offered by Rowan University. This amount may be achieved through any combination of day, evening, on campus and off-campus offerings and does not have to be the last 30 credits completed. All students planning to complete degree or teacher certification requirements at the end of the semester must complete the appropriate graduation application at the Registrar’s Office for the term. Diplomas will be available approximately eight weeks after the end of the term.
    2. For Graduate Students, The number of graduate credits that may be transferred toward a Rowan University graduate degree depends on the specific program and degree type:
      1. Post-baccalaureate and certificate programs may permit the transfer of up to 6 credits.
      2. Most graduate degree programs allow matriculated students to transfer up to 12 graduate-level credits.
    3. Transfer credit limits may vary by program, particularly for thesis- or dissertation-based programs.

      Note: Some Programs may establish more restrictive transfer credit limits based on accreditation, curricular design, or program structure. Programs may impose additional criteria including accreditation standards, applicability to elective or core requirements, and alignment with program learning outcomes.

  3. The University reserves the right to modify its requirements for graduation, continued registration or appropriate progress towards the degree as directed by the Commission on Higher Education, the Presidents Council, or by the board of trustees of Rowan University. These modifications may include, but are not limited to, requirements for the demonstration of competence ++n college level basic skills, satisfactory mastery of subject matter in a major field or the acquisition of a broadly based liberal arts education.
